Detailed Info about Bulgaria

  • Employment type allowed: Fixed term, indefinite contract
  • Work Type:40h/week
  • Probation period: Maximum 6 months

  • Notice Period: Between 1-3 months
  • Employer Cost: 19.50%
  • Employee Tax Burden: Flat rate of 10% applied to taxable income after allowable deductions

Mandatory Benefits:

· DOO – State Social Security (covers pensions, disability, sickness, maternity, unemployment).

· DZPO – Mandatory Supplementary Pension Insurance (contributions to private pension funds, either universal or professional).

· ZO – Health Insurance (mandatory health contributions managed by the National Health Insurance Fund).

Supplemental Benefits:

· Year-End Bonus (employer discretion)

Leave:

  • Paid Leave: Minimum 20 days (employers can offer more than the minimum set)
  • Sick leave: Employee can benefit from sick leave only if they have at least 6 months of insurance service. Day 1-2 paid by employer, from day 3 onwards it is covered by NSSI. If more than 14 days are needed, the situation is reviewed by the Medical Advisory Committee.
  • Maternity leave: 410 calendar days with leave starting 45 days before expected birth date paid at 90% of the mother’s average salary, covered by NSSI, not employer.
  • Paternity leave: 15 paid days through social insurance system

  • Termination:Employers can terminate on statutory grounds, such asredundancy, poor performance and disciplinary misconduct. There is no universal severance entitlement.

  • Pay dates: last working day of the month
